It's also interesting to note that many adsense google ads are formatted just as the four lined up in the lower box. I usually try to avoid clicking on these myself because they usually lead to a series of clicks to 'not what I'm looking for.' However, the more clicked ad was an image saying "CLICK HERE," and didn't seem so "adsy" (pardon the made up word)

@Shaun, all generalizations are false, that's true.

I should probably update my post and say that people shouldn't simply default to using Adsense as monetization. As your comment points out, there are myriad of ways to monetize.

The type of traffic is obviously a consideration, but when keeping traffic the same, I've found every time that Adsense wasn't the way to go (granted, this is only in niches where I've done work). Please do share niches where you find Adsense to be the best monetization option.

Hey Guys,

I just got my first $100 deposit from Google Adsense for my 3 fledgling web sites. That was a long time coming. That and Amazon.com have been my only advertising income. I do sell a guide and that has brought in about $2000 so far. Big difference, huh?

I see your point, I could be working that space to better pitch my guide and other commission-paying sites' products/services that my visitors might actually need and purchase.

I need to work on this. You make good points. Thanks!

You've used way too broad of generalizations here. It depends on the niche. Not all traffic is created equal. If someone is willing to click an ad to leave your site, chances are they aren't going to buy something while on your site that time.

You're assumptions are just ... wrong. Plus, it's not mutually exclusive. I use leads, sales, services, private ad sales, infolinks and other sources of monetization... it just depends on the niche, and your sources of traffic.
