Adsense Heatmap – Best places to put Adsense on a website

I recently received an email from the Google Adsense team asking me if I wanted to make more money. Of course I did so I checked out the email. They included an image of what they called the Adsense heatmap showing where on the page Adsense ads get clicked the most.
I figured this would be something all of my readers would be interested to know so I am including a picture of the heat map below.

As you can see from the heatmap as the colors get darker this means that more clicks happen in these areas. So the best place to put Adsense on a website is directly above the main content of a page and from there directly surrounding the main content.
The top right section of a page where I see Adsense placed all of the time is the worst place to put ad blocks if you want them to get clicked.
Use this to play around with your Adsense ads and see if you can’t make more money.

I have recently switched away from my favorite freeware WordPress theme to a subscription theme called “The HeatMap Theme“. I witched both because I needed a theme that kept pace with WordPress releases and I needed something that would better support the self-promotion of my products on some sites and improve advertising revenues on other sites.
The HeatMap Theme has widget areas that are all optional but ultimately can give you nearly the layout of your diagram above.
One month later I can say that my conversion rate has nearly doubled. Also I am able to run the latest WordPress theme and converting to HeatMap Theme was pretty painless (especially because the author helped me out through his forums). I am pleased with my subscription ($35 annually) and I am going to explore more options, such as switching my ads from the right to the left side (thanks to your article).
Adam, I would love to hear your opinion of the HeatMap Theme.
Christian, any theme that helps you double the money you’re making is a good thing. Don’t stop there though. Try to emulate the heat map and see if the results are any better. I would also recommend that you use the medium and large rectangle in the main content section of your site.

I’ve been using the heat map placements on my websites, and it works really good. I just need to try large and medium rectangles in my content, and see how that effects my conversion rate.
